At the heart of this course is one simple philosophy: a first draft is always better than no draft. Whether you have a story that has been nagging at you or just a creative itch waiting to be scratched, we will excavate it and bring it to life. Together, we’ll ride the writer's rollercoaster. We will face the blocks, discover the solutions, and celebrate the breakthroughs. But most importantly, we will finally hit "save" on a finished piece.
Course Overview
We will meet once a week. That will give you the structured time to fully dedicate yourself, show up for your writing, and honor your passion. This consistent cadence is designed to help you build momentum and deeply refine your craft.
Together, we will explore literary short stories, personal essays, and poetry. By focusing on the mechanics of words, sentences, and paragraphs, you will improve your ease and confidence in using language, craft well-structured narratives, and bring your characters to vibrant life.
What You Will Achieve
Develop a consistent practice: Ground your daily writing routine in the close observation of place and your surroundings.
Write across genres: Experiment with fiction, personal essays, and poetry to expand your creative boundaries.
Master the workshop method: Practice giving and receiving constructive feedback in a supportive, collaborative setting.
Refine your voice: Make your prose more precise, clear, and captivating while exploring innovative uses of language.
Complete a draft: Leave the course with a strong foundational understanding of narrative craft and the satisfaction of a finished piece.
